Last updated on March 4th, 2023 at 01:32 am

From creating engaging blog posts to developing long-form content, AI-driven writing tools are taking over the content creation industry. As more and more businesses are in a race to outrun their competitors, it’s critical to invest in quality AI writing tools.

But with so many options out there, it’s not always easy to find the right one that meets all your needs at an affordable price point. Frase is starting to make its way as a force to be reckoned with.

So I decided, why not give Frase a shot? How does it compare as a content generation tool?

Read all about this Frase review it in my deep dive.

Frase Review

What is Frase IO?

Frase is an AI-powered content platform that helps you research, write and optimize high-quality SEO content. Think of a Jasper/Surfer SEO/Google Analytics hybrid of sorts.

It can help you save time in writing and editing:

  • Researching topics
  • Generating content outlines
  • Using AI to write content

Frase can help you cut back the time you spend with search intent, drafting an article and writing said article.

Signing Up

Unfortunately, there are no free trials with Frase. There is a $1 trial in which you can try out the works for 5 days. There is also a $35 extra charge if you want Premium features and yes, that applies to all pricing packages.

NOTE: I paid the $35 extra charge for the Premium features.

Fill in the required info, press CREATE DOCUMENT, and Frase will have you all set up in the content editor ready to go!

  3. Editor Menu
  4. SHARE button. This is where you share your content with your writer/editor. (Only available with a Basic or Team plan.)

Using the Frase AI Writer.

There are three ways of writing in the Frase Content Editor: start typing in the editor, import a template from the IMPORT TEMPLATE at the top left of the writing interface, and start getting a content brief ready utilizing the Frase tools on the right of the editor.

The first one we’ll check out is importing a template.

Click on the IMPORT TEMPLATE link in the editor.

Select the template you want to use, fill out the required info and click USE THIS TEMPLATE. The outline will automatically populate in the editor.

Using the Research Button

This is where one of Frase’s standout features comes into play. You can actually do the research through Frase without having to visit Google or divide your time between any other SEO tools.

To start, click on the “LET’S GO!” button toward the right of the editor. This part may take a few minutes as Frase compiles the top 20 results for your target search query.

This is what you will see as far as results. (I’m only using this as it was the top example.)

Take note of the information provided in the rankings:

  • Web ranking
  • Word count
  • Site DA
  • Number of links to the article
  • All H tags and headlines (If you click on each of the headlines, it will show the content written under each headline.)

At the very top of the research window stands the stats you will need if you want to outperform the top 20 articles.

In addition, the SERP Overview in the menu above drops down where you can also find:

  • Questions
  • Headings
  • Statistics
  • News and related sources
  • Wikipedia topics

The questions alone can be a goldmine as they are fished from

  • SERP
  • People Also Ask
  • Quora
  • Reddit

Using the Outline Feature

If you want to put together a killer outline for your content, Frase can help you with their outline builder. When you click on the OUTLINE BUTTON, you will arrive at a screen with all of the outlines and headers for the aforementioned top 20 articles.

All you need to do is click on the headlines of your choice into the EXPLORE window to compile the outline you want.

And questions! Don’t forget the questions. Lots of content opportunities to check out.

One outline, sunny side up.

In addition, you can move headlines around to the order of your desire and change the headline type.

On the OUTLINE tab, when your outline is met to your satisfaction, you can paste it into the editor.

The SUMMARIZE tab is where Frase will write summaries for your outline. This can take up to a few minutes.

If you wish you can either re-summarize or paste it into the editor.

Want to take it one step further? You can even have Frase write a draft for your article. This too takes a bit of time, so please be patient. It’s super cool, though.

However, you will need to manually edit it. It’s not perfect and sometimes you may run into some semi-gibberish.

See what I mean? Not only that, some of the text written may not be true. Human touch is required.

And there you have it as far as getting an article off the ground. With the research and content outline all in one place, Frase definitely gets high marks from me for this.

Using the AI Writer

Like other AI content writers, you can use Frase to generate full-length articles. Keep in mind that with all other AI writers, always review and edit the content with your personal perspective. Frase may do a lot, but it can’t do everything.

If you decide to use the editor manually, be warned: When you use the WRITE button, you need to have some paragraphs written in order for it to work. It does not work properly if you try to create content fresh, or if preceded by merely a heading. It’s not enough context to give the AI writer so it can work.

Also, you cannot type a command in the editor like you can with Jasper and get results. That will do nothing.

The way to use it is by utilizing the 41 commands given to the right of the editor. Among things you can automate are:

  • Pros and cons lists
  • YouTube video ideas
  • Title ideas
  • Sentence rewriter
  • Product description
  • Paragraph rewriter
  • Listicle ideas

Plus many more.

So I want to spruce up my blog intro. What I can do here is click on BLOG INTRODUCTION in the template menu, input the required fields and voila!

A whole new intro has just been created. If you find it to your liking, just hit the clipboard button at the top right and it will populate the editor.

If you don’t like it, click the LOAD MORE button at the bottom of the screen for more blog introductions to be written.

Frase’s writing capabilities are pretty decent, up there with its top-ranking competitors. Of course, it’s not absolutely perfect. But with your (or your writer’s) magic touch that can be rectified.

Optimizing Frase Content

Here is where Jasper meets Surfer SEO as far as a content optimization tool. Frase has a cool feature in which you can optimize your content a la Surfer SEO. However, there are some things that make Frase stand out.

You can click on the clipboard at the top right to insert the desired SEO keyword needed into your content. If you choose, you can now write about that particular term manually or through the AI writer.

The percentage number at the top right tells you your content score and how your content compares with the top 20. The gold bar is where you need to reach, if not exceed.

Admittedly, the look isn’t as pretty as Surfer SEO, but it still does the job.

Frase has some really cool integrations. One that really stands out is Google Docs. Here is where you can use the content optimization features right there in the document.

You can also integrate Google Console to Frase in which you can use it to optimize your blog and check on how your articles are performing. Here’s a video from Frase on how to use the Content Analyzer.

Frase Pricing

Frase’s pricing is about on par with Jasper and Surfer SEO. However, the additional $35 for Premium features (which includes the SEO add-on) may put you over the top.

Pricing is as follows:

Solo Plan: $14.99/month, $12/month if paying annually.

Basic Plan: $44.99/month, $37/month if paying annually.

Team Plan: $114.99/month, $97/month if paying annually.

Choosing the Solo package, with the $35 pro-add-on I’m shelling out $49.99 per month. If you do not choose the pro-add-on the pricing would then be reasonable. Then again, you’ll be missing out on some goodies.

What I loved about Frase

  • The SEO optimization combined with the content brief and outlines.
  • Competition research is built in without having to consult Google separately.

What I didn’t like about Frase

  • Does not support as many languages.
  • Not as many content templates as Jasper.
  • Having to pay an extra $35 per month for extra goodies on top of the regular pricing plan.
  • Can’t use the AI writer button without some context behind it.

Should You Give Frase a Shot?

Absolutely. I admit to being a bit biased as I have used Jasper and Surfer SEO for so long but Frase seems to be making its way toward the head of the AI content pack.

The one thing is that Frase is rather unique at this point with all its features combined at this time. How long will it stay that way? I don’t know, but it is proving itself as a trusted alternative as an AI content creator and as an SEO optimization tool.

Frase is marketing itself as a one-stop shop as a writing tool, content creation tool, keyword research tool, and SEO optimization tool.

With the right tweaking, Frase can help you in your content creation process by giving you the building blocks needed to write quality content.

Its content creator is all right. It is not as automated as Jasper but the content optimization tools that are available work just fine. Its SEO optimization tool combined makes it quite the selling point.

My personal user experience was fine. There were some tweaks I had to make and some editing I needed to do, but it was no worse than the editing I do using other AI content tools.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience. Check it out here.
