Should You Use AI Content Creation?
Last updated on March 4th, 2023 at 02:47 am
Using AI content creation is a huge topic among writers. The idea of not needing to compose the copy for all your content can bring mixed emotions: relief at having no writer’s block but trepidation as it doesn’t have panache and it has the pizazz of a droning economics professor.
You can thank GPT-3 for this. Despite the boom of AI content creation, there are dissenting voices that say that this is not a step in the right direction.
Huh, So What is GPT-3? And What does “AI in Marketing” mean?
To answer the second question, AI in marketing is using AI tools to create your content.
As far as GPT-3, According to this Buffer article,
“GPT-3 stands for “generative pre-trained transformer 3.” It is the 3rd iteration of the project, released by OpenAI in June 2020.”
A way more technical explanation from Wired:
“GPT-3 was built by directing machine-learning algorithms to study the statistical patterns in almost a trillion words collected from the web and digitized books. The system memorized the forms of countless genres and situations, from C++ tutorials to sports writing. It uses its digest of that immense corpus to respond to a text prompt by generating new text with similar statistical patterns.”
TL:DR? The third generation of artificial intelligence being able to mimic human writing.
According to the New York Times, GPT-3’s capabilities in prose is right up there with humans, but according to Wired, the GPT can generate decent text, but is “often unmoored from reality.”
It sounds like you will have to try it out for yourself, like I did below.
GPT-3 In Action
Taking the lead from Buffer, I decided to use Jasper to generate some content. Even though that I do have articles promoting AI writing tools, I am willing to call out a product if it performs poorly.
Using the criteria above, I used Jasper to compose a brief article on using AI for content creation. Here was the result:
As a marketer or business owner, you’re always looking for ways to create better content faster. And with the advent of GPT-3 AI tools, you may be wondering if using these tools is the way to go.
Before we dive into whether or not you should use AI for content creation, let’s first take a look at what GPT-3 is and how it works.
GPT-3 is a machine learning platform that enables businesses and marketers to create content at scale. The platform uses natural language processing (NLP) to understand the context of a piece of content and then generate new content based on that understanding.
So, should you use AI for content creation? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons.
Pros:
1. AI can help you create content faster.
2. AI can help you scale your content creation.
3. AI can help you improve the quality of your content.
4. AI can help you target your content to specific audiences.
Cons:
1. AI-created content may not be as unique as hand-crafted content.
2. AI-created content may not be as accurate as hand-crafted content (although this is improving).
overall, using GPT-3 for content creation has more pros than cons. The main con is that the quality of AI-created content may not be quite as good as hand
My Thoughts
It’s a decent start, I’ll say that much. (Jasper will only compose so much before you have to edit and input your own content.)
I’m going to break down the pros and cons that Jasper generated.
1. AI can help you create content faster.
Very true. However, the accuracy of the content is debatable.
2. AI can help you scale your content creation.
This is true as well. If you are working solo or with a small team and have a limited budget, AI can help with this as well.
3. AI can help you improve the quality of your content.
Uhhh…that’s debatable. Keep in mind the AI tools get their content from content that is already out there.
4. AI can help you target your content to specific audiences.
I have not had extensive experience in this aspect.
Now, time for the cons.
1. AI-created content may not be as unique as hand-crafted content.
DING DING DING DING! We have a winner. Go back to pro #3.
2. AI-created content may not be as accurate as hand-crafted content (although this is improving).
More DING DING DING DING! You have to admit, it is getting more accurate. It’s getting more accurate than when I started using Jasper so long ago.
As you can see, this is nowhere near perfect or foolproof. I have a foundation, now I need to patch the cracks and finish building it.
Does Writing with AI Work?
It depends. Considering I use AI (Jasper–somewhat of a promo) a little to help generate my content, I can see where the anti-AI people come from. I honestly don’t think the creativity of the human mind can ever be replicated through AI. However, I do like the idea of AI breaking writer’s block.
There are other scenarios in which GPT-3 can be beneficial:
- Limited budget and/or team.
- Constant publishing.
- Content scaling.
- Low-effort tasking.
As long as you can generate a decent balance to have AI take care of the basic baby foundations and you tweak it to your preference, I see no issue using it.
GPT-3 Article Generators
Some examples of GPT-3 article generators are:
Conclusion
There is no mistake that GPT-3 copywriting is getting huge. However, the AI writing tools out there, while doing good, is not perfect. Using AI as an assistant can be fine, but don’t get overly dependent on it.
Many AI content creators do not have the AI capability to mimic human creativity and if you’re trying to build a personal brand, AI will be a hindrance.
If you decide to try some AI writing tools, the list above is a good start. Not to toot my horn but I do have an article or two that also discusses GPT-3 content creation as well. *whistles nonchalantly*
